5 tips for finding your dream job

1. Stay flexible.
Your dream job may not be around the corner, it could be around the world. If you really want to chase the ideal job for you, the trip may require plane fare. Establish your priorities on location and search accordingly.


2. Know your goals.
It’s the people who have a clear focus on what they want to do and who they want to be that impress potential employers. Don’t try to be all things to all people and you will get further faster.


3. Hit the books.
You’re going to have to do some serious homework before you start searching for your dream job. Grab a cup of coffee and hit the stacks and Barnes and Noble for books that help you figure out what you want (such as What Color is your Parachute and other classics of the genre). Then hop online and start looking through lists of Best Companies to Work For and the like. Aim high, but know your target!


4. Stay grounded.
This is dream job, but don’t lose sight of the fact that no job is going to be ideal in every way. Sometimes you may have to make a minor sacrifice in one area to enjoy HUGE gains in another.


5. Remember that patience is a virtue. Your dream job may not materialize the moment you wish it to be so. You’re going to have to pound the pavement and be persistent. And whatever you do, don’t quit your existing job until you’ve got something new lined up.
